Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is arguably the best known female superhero. She has been immortalized by many a comic book, and through Lynda Carter’s definitive portrayal. Joss Whedon, a comic, tv and film writer, is creating an upcoming Wonder Woman film.
The basic Wonder Woman costume is a bit more complicated than her male counterparts (such as Batman and Superman). Wonder Woman wears red knee-high boots with a heel. These boots have a white line up the center. Sometimes Wonder Woman’s boots are also flat-footed. In the older comic books, Wonder Woman wore sandals or slippers that were red that laced up to the knee.
Wonder Woman’s shorts are small, tight (think Daisy Duke shorts), and patterned to look patriotically American. The shorts are blue with white stars. Wonder Woman used to wear a short skirt in her original comic book. The skirt was also blue with white stars. Her shorts are basically darker blue bathing suit bottoms (that are sometimes a bit ill-fitting) with white stars.
Above her shorts (which tend to fit high for our modern low-rise tastes) she wears a gold belt. Her belt is one of her signature pieces: it is not simply a gold circlet: it is bigger in the front, expanding into a gold diamond shape. Sometimes this connects to the ornamentation on her top, and other times it doesn’t.
Wonder Woman’s top could be hard to replicate. Wonder Woman essentially wears a bright red strapless bustier. This bustier is tucked into her golden belt. On the top of her red bustier, Wonder Woman wears a gold insignia. In the old comic books, this was shaped like two letter Ws, one above the other. It was centered on her chest, with the arms of the W’s leading out up over her cleavage. Mostly you can see the red bodice above the gold ornamentation.
In the more commonly known Lynda Carter Wonder Woman costume has some variation. Sometimes it can be clearly seen to be the shape of a bird, with the wings raised over the cleavage. Other times this is more stylized, and she has more of a line across the top of her fitted outfit with some other lines following.
The nice thing about the variation in the Wonder Woman costume is that because there have been so many different versions, you can pick and choose the elements that you like best to make your own flattering Wonder Woman costume! The important elements are the blue with white stars bottoms, red boots, gold belt, bracelets and tiara.
Although this is the basis of the Wonder Woman outfit, there are many other Wonder Woman Accessories, such as the tiara and lasso that make an outfit complete!
